Pete Canter & Matt Johns
The Old Library - 10 Lower Bore Street, Bodmin, UK
Top flight jazz musicians Pete Canter (saxophone & double bass) and Matt Johns (piano) make a return visit to The Old Library. At their last visit (January 2019), the first ever live music event at intoBodmin, they enthralled the audience with their virtuosity, communication and obvious enjoyment of the superb music they were making.
Pete Canter is a leading light on the Southwest jazz scene as a player, band leader and jazz composer. He has a beautiful sound on both soprano and tenor saxophones and a lyrical yet exciting style. He also plays a mean double bass.
Matt Johns is an extremely talented pianist, who is endlessly inventive and much in demand throughout the Southwest. The two are long standing musical collaborators and Matt is the regular pianist with Pete's quartet and other bands which have performed at major UK jazz festivals and recorded several well received albums.
The music will be a mix of Pete's well crafted originals and well chosen jazz standards taking in swing, bebop, hardbop and latin jazz.
“…..an inventive soloist with a distinctive sound……” Ian Mann, The Jazzmann about the Pete Canter Quartet album Lightflight.
